RICHFORD-JAY VT-105

STP 2914(1) Richford

RESURFACE VT105 IN RICHFORD AND JAY, BEGINNING 2.529 MILES EAST OF THE BERKSHIRE-RICHFORD TOWN LINE AND EXTENDING EASTERLY 7.381 MILES.

Project Location: The project begins just east of the VT-105 and South Richford Road intersection in Richford and extends easterly along VT-105 to just east of its intersection with West Jay Road in Jay. The total project length is 7.381 miles.

Project Description: Work will consist of milling the existing surface to a specified depth, then the first pass reclaim process will occur, pulverizing and homogenizing the remaining pavement with underlying subgrade. New gravel will be placed in some areas along the corridor to improve banking, then a second pass reclaim process will take place which will facilitate a second round of homogenizing of the gravel and pavement as well as add in a stabilizing agent to create a structural layer of subgrade. Following the second pass reclaim, a structural thickness of pavement will be placed, consisting of a combination of cold mix and hot mix asphalt.

Additional work will include the replacement and maintenance of existing guardrail runs, some culvert replacements, ditching and center line rumble strip (CLRS) installations where criteria have been met. Finally, signs along the corridor will be replaced and upgraded to meet current standards set in the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).

Due to the rail line that crosses within the project limits, some work will be performed at the crossing. The surface will be replaced, and infrastructure will be upgraded for compliance with the MUTCD and best safety practices.

Lastly, there is a stretch of ledge adjacent to the shoulder of the road. This exposed rock falls within the roadway clear zone and limits ditching through the area. As such, work will be performed to move the ledge away from the road through machine scaling and blasting.
