LONDONDERRY BRIDGE BR#25
STP CULV(125) Londonderry
Project is for work on bridge 25 located on VT 11 in Londonderry.
Project Location: Town of Londonderry in Windham County on VT Route 11. The bridge is located approximately 1.1 miles west of the junction with VT Route 100.
The Londonderry Bridge 25 project includes the replacement of the existing Asphalt Coated Corrugated Galvanized Metal Plate Pipe with serves as a cattle pass for the Taylor Farm (ACCGMPP). The existing culvert was built in 1948 and has a span of 6-feet and is 72 feet long. There is an average of 3 feet of fill over the culvert. The structure currently has a culvert rating of 6 (Satisfactory). While the culvert is in satisfactory condition, There is noticeable defection along the top of the pipe with some settlement present and crushing has started on the south end of the pipe.
VTrans evaluated alternatives for rehabilitation or replacement of the bridge in an engineering study completed in August 2023. This study assessed the proposed design criteria for the structure, right-of-way, rare/threatened/endangered species impacts, and archaeological resource impacts. Several alternatives were considered, including: no action, invert repair, culvert liner, and replacement with a new culvert. An offsite detour, phased construction, and a temporary bridge were evaluated as potential maintenance of traffic options.
Given the age of the structure, site constraints and current conditions, the engineering study recommended a full bridge replacement with a new precast box while maintaining traffic on an offsite detour.
It is anticipated that the bridge will be constructed during the summer of 2025.
Traffic will be maintained on an offsite detour for 60 hours. The State-signed detour is as follows:VT Route 11-E toward old Stowell Hill, to VT Route 100 S, to VT-30 N, back to VT Route 11-E (24 miles end-to-end). There are several local bypass routes available.
