MORETOWN BRIDGE BR#42

BO TRUS(8) Moretown

Rehabilitation of Bridge #42 on TH 39 in Moretown, including superstructure replacement on existing abutments.

Project Location: Town of Moretown in Washington County on TH 39 over the Mad River. The bridge is located approximately 0.05 mile from the junction with VT Route 100B.

The Moretown Bridge 42 project involves the rehabilitation of the existing steel truss bridge. The existing bridge was built in 1920, and rehabilitated in 1991. It has a length of 102 feet. The structure currently has a deck rating of 8 (very good), superstructure rating of 5 (fair), and substructure rating of 8. All primary structural elements are sound but may have minor section loss, (cracking, spalling or scour). The verticals have heavy rust scale with deep pitting and significant section loss in the lower 3” +/- of the ends of the webs, with perforations mostly in the upstream side of the truss. Downstream verticals are showing signs of deep pitting and holes could soon form. The diagonals have areas of heavy rust scale with deep pitting and minor to moderate section loss in the lower ends.
