BURLINGTON-WINOOSKI BRIDGE BR#150
BF RAIZ(2) Burlington
Replacement of BR #150 over the Winooski River between Winooski and Burlington.
The Burlington-Winooski Bridge No. 150 project includes replacement of the existing 3 span structure. The existing structure was constructed in 1928 and has had several rehabilitation projects.
The purpose of the project is to improve safety while maintaining structural integrity and continuity of this integral link between Winooski and Burlington across the Winooski River. The project will address deficiencies in the bridge while improving multi-modal (bicycle, pedestrian, vehicular) travel for people and goods. The design will also complement the context of the natural and cultural environment and provide an aesthetically appealing bridge to link the two cities.
The needs of the project include designated lanes for bicycle and pedestrian traffic, two lanes of traffic in each direction, improved safety for bicyclists and pedestrians, and addressing the conditional deficiencies of the existing structure.
A scoping study was completed by the Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission and the cities of Burlington and Winooski in 2019 to evaluate alternatives for improvements to the bridge connecting the two cities. The final report can be found here: https://studiesandreports.ccrpcvt.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/FINAL-Winooski-River-Bridge-Scoping-Study.pdf
The project will be contracted using the Design-Build procurement method. Accelerated Bridge Construction components and methods will be used to reduce impacts to users of the bridge and nearby businesses and residents.
