BRATTLEBORO VT-9

NH PC25(5) Brattleboro

Class 1 paving on VT 9 in Brattleboro from MM 4.178 to 5.903.

The project will be part of a composite contract to cover the National Highway System (NHS) segments of Class 1 highway in Brattleboro, as well as the non-NHS segments during the same construction period. The projects have been split due to differing tracking requirements for the two classifications.  It is also worth noting that this project and the other Class I resurfacing project mentioned above is part one larger contract which involves the Brattleboro-Putney STP PS25(11) resurfacing project which is located on US Route 5 and is part of the State Highway System.

Project Location: These projects will cover the extent of all the Class 1 Town Highways in Brattleboro, typically noted by a sign stating: “State Highway Ends” and “State Highway Begins.” The following limits are not broken by project limits and cover the contiguous length of roadway.

US-5: The project begins at the Class 1 limit sign on US-5 at its intersection with Generous Street and extends along US-5 to the “State Highway Begins Sign” at the Vermont Ave intersection.

VT-9: The project begins at the Edward Heights intersection at the end of the Wilmington-Brattleboro reclaim project and extends along VT-9 to its intersection with US-5 at the traffic signal.

VT-30: The project begins at the US-5 and VT-30 interchange and follows VT-30 to the approximately its intersection with Cedar Street at the begin limits of the Brattleboro-Newfane reclaim project.

VT-142: The project begins at the Class 1 limit sign, just south of the railroad tracks near Riverside Drive and follows VT-142 to its intersection with US-5 at the traffic signal.

Project Description: Work will consist of course milling the existing pavement to a 2” depth, then placing a 1/2” lift of Type IVS pavement to level the road surface, followed but a 1-1/2” lift of Type IVS pavement as the final wearing surface. Sidewalk ramps and pedestrian crossing infrastructure will be replaced and upgraded to meet current ADA standards, as necessary. Some bicycle features may be added where applicable and feasible. Signs will also be replaced and upgraded as necessary to meet current specifications in the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). Finally, shoulder berms that have built up will be removed to facilitate better drainage from the road surface, and some ditching work may be performed to further aid in drainage.  It is anticipated that the majority of the work in this project (NH PC25(5)) will occur during typical night time hours as an effort to minimize impacts to traffic.

Project Timeline:  Work will begin in the spring months of 2025 and will conclude in the summer of 2026.  It is anticipated that the majority of the work within this project (NH PC25(5)) will be completed in by the fall months of 2025.
