Scoping refinement for improvements to the intersections of Colchester Ave/Barret St and Colchester Ave/Mill St.

The Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans), in cordination with the City of Burlington and the engineering firm HNTB, is working to improve the intersection complex at Riverside Aveune, Colchester Avenue, Barrett Street and Mill Street in Burlington. To provide a safer intersection that enhances mobility and access for all users while ensuring efficient operation, VTrans will simplify the intersection while creating a gateway for those entering the city from the north along US Routes 2/7.

A scoping study was completed by the Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission and the City of Burlington in 2019 to evaluate alternatives for improvements at the intersection complex. The final report can be found here: 2019 Scoping Study

The project will be packaged together with the ongoing Winooski River Bridge project, Burlington-Winooski BF RAIZ(2) and will be contracted using the Design-Build procurement method.

Significant impact to the traveling public by both the intersection and the bridge replacement projects will be expected. An extensive public outreach process will be developed to inform the public of conditions fo the work zones throughout the life of both projects.
