CHESTER-SPRINGFIELD VT-11

STP PS19(4) Chester

Resurfacing of VT 11 beginning in Chester at MM 5.206 and continuing until Springfield MM 3.528.

Project Location: The project begins at the intersection of VT-11 and VT-103 in Chester and extends easterly along VT-11 for approximately 6.663 miles to just west of the intersection of VT-11 and Park Street at the western Class 1 Town Highway limit in Springfield. The project begins again at the eastern Class 1 Town Highway limit, east of the VT-11 and Seavers Brook Road intersection, and continues easterly along VT-11 to its intersecting with US-5 South in Springfield.

Project Description: Work under this contract will include a pavement preservation technique called Hot In-Place Recycling (HIPR). This process heats the existing asphalt pavement, scarifies the top 1-1/2” and adds in a rejuvenating agent, then replaces the existing material in a reformed, smooth mat. HIPR provides benefit by rejuvenating the viscosity of aging asphalt binder, and well as removing surface cracking and rutting. To complete the process, the roadway will be paved with a 3/4" lift of Bonded Wearing Course to cap the HIPR treated pavement. Further, there will be some areas where the pavement will be fine milled to a depth of 3/4", then paved with a 3/4" lift of Bonded Wearing Course.

Due to the rail line that crosses within the project limits, some work will be performed at the crossing. The surface will be replaced, and infrastructure will be upgraded for compliance with the MUTCD and best safety practices.

In addition to the pavement treatment and rail crossing above, guardrail will be repaired and replaced as necessary to maintain compliance with current standards, and signs along the route will be replaced. Finally, the project will perform some ditching work to aid in drainage throughout the limits.

Note: This project is part of a composite contract with the VT-10 and VT-106 paving projects in Chester and Springfield.
