The scope of this project includes reconstruction of the bridge structure off-alignment to the north of the existing bridge, reconfiguration of the southbound interchange ramps, modification of the existing northbound off-ramp, reconstruction of all three signalized intersections through the project, and roadway widening to accommodate additional turning lanes at the Chimney Corners Intersection. The Colchester NH 028-1(31) Exit 17 Project was developed in part to address safety concerns that traffic on the northbound off-ramp may back up onto the high-speed travel way of the interstate during peak hours and due to the deteriorating condition of the US Route 2 Bridge over I-89. This project also addresses inefficiencies in traffic patterns at the US Route 2 and US Route 7 intersection (Chimney Corners) and at the I-89 southbound on-ramp.
