MT. HOLLY BRIDGE BR#64

BO 1443(56) Mt. Holly

REPLACEMENT OF BRIDGE NO. 64 ON TH17 IN MT. HOLLY, OVER A BRANCH OF THE MILL RIVER.

Project Location: Town of Mt. Holly in Rutland County on TH 17 over a branch of Mill River. Bridge 64 is a town-owned bridge, located approximately 0.05 mile from the junction with VT 103.

The Mt. Holly Bridge 64 project includes the replacement of the existing single span rolled beam bridge. The existing structure has a length of 31 feet and a width of 14 feet. The structure currently has a deck rating of 6 (Satisfactory), a superstructure rating of 5 (Fair), and a substructure rating of 5 (Fair). This bridge was constructed in 1934.

VTrans evaluated alternatives for the rehabilitation or replacement of Bridge 64 in an engineering study completed in November 2022. The study assessed the proposed design criteria for the bridge and roadway alignment, right of way impacts, hydraulics, and historical and archaeological resources, and environmental resources. Several alternatives were considered including no action, minor rehabilition, deck replacment, superstructure replacement and full bridge replacement. Given the age of the structure and existing structural and geometric deficiencies, the engineering study recommended full bridge replacement off-alignment with traffic maintained throughout construction.

The new bridge will be located off-alignment with traffic maintained on the the existing bridge throughout construction.
