KILLINGTON BRIDGE BR#30

BF 020-2(50) Killington

Construction of a new precast concrete box with related roadway and channel work.

Project Location: Town of Killington in Rutland County on US Route 4. The bridge is located approximately 1.4 miles east of the junction with VT Route 100 at the intersection with Spring Hill Road.

This project includes the replacement of the existing culvert. The existing structure is a 158-foot long, 6-foot span Asphalt Coated Corrugated Galvanized Metal Plate Pipe Arch constructed in 1965.  There is an average of 7 feet of fill over the existing culvert. The structure currently has a culvert rating of 3 (Serious).

VTrans evaluated alternatives for rehabilitation or replacement of the bridge in an engineering study completed in March, 2020.  This study assessed the proposed design criteria for the structure, right-of-way, hydraulics, and community considerations. Several alternatives were considered, including: no action, a culvert invert, spray on liner, a new 4-sided box culvert, and a new concrete rigid frame.

Given the age of the structure, site constraints, existing geometry, and current conditions, the engineering study recommended a full replacement with a concrete box culvert.

It is anticipated that the bridge will be constructed during the summer of 2023.

During construction, traffic will be maintained via phased construction.  Access to Spring Hill Road will be maintained throughout construction.
